The Individual™ ☞ A Hundreds-of-Hours-Saving ⚰️ Life-Changing 🤯 Digest on Conformity!
Most people do or say almost everything they do or say to fit it, with the goal and hope of being accepted by others (mostly people they do not know and who do not care about them). That’s the main reason most people cannot stand being alone, for long, if at all … without things such as entertainment and alcohol. Their true selves, when they are not intoxicated or entertained and are by themselves, torture them by reminding them that they are, not themselves, but mere actors who are acting to please and hopefully be accepted by people who are themselves, not themselves, but mere actors who are acting for the very same reason.
Starting to be yourself is extremely difficult, but not as much as continuing to be yourself.
The pressure to continue conforming at the expense of your individuality is nothing compared to the pressure to start conforming at the expense of your individuality. And that is because the person who is him or herself stands out and invokes jealousy—which usually masquerades as concern—in all or the vast majority of those around him or her, because he or she has the courage to be him or herself, while they do not, which is why they gave in to mindless conformity and, as a result, gave up their individuality for social acceptance. Their pain of not being themselves is intensified by the sight of someone who is him or herself, and is lessened when everyone around them is conforming.

⚰️ Why trust me with your attention, your time, pieces of your life? Conformity almost killed me!
I was still in high school. We, the rugby players, were at a camp.
Before going to compete in an obstacle course race, we were asked to raise our hands if we couldn't swim, and I didn't raise my hand, even though I couldn't swim, because none of my teammates raised their hand. Or, to be accurate, because one of my then friends and classmates—who had told me the night before that he, too, couldn't swim—didn't raise his hand.
That's mindless conformity instance number one.
During the obstacle course race, while crossing a very deep and extremely muddy river using two ropes (one to be walked on and the highest to be held for support), Sebati, the above mentioned friend who had told me that he couldn't swim, decided to copy the strategy that was used by everyone except me and him: swimming instead of walking over the river through the rope (which was obviously smart, if you could swim). He jumped into the river.
Mindless Conformity Instance Number Two
I, at the time the only person still walking over the river instead of swimming, did what was expected of me (with reason, I admit—swimming was the fastest way to get to the other side of the river, and they thought I could swim: I jumped into the river!
The second my head was out of the dirty water, I started shouting “HEEELP!” And I did that repeatedly, as my head went in and out of the river, for what felt like both a few seconds and many hours.
Unknowingly “Swimming” Away From Help Towards Drowning
Once I was submerged, barely conscious and no longer fighting the river's attempt to swallow me, I did what I thought was a backstroke. Little did I know that I was making my friends’ effort to rescue me from the extremely muddy water harder with every “backstroke”, because I was moving further away from the spot I “disappeared” into.
Fortunately for those whose minds, and as a result their lives, were, are, or will be improved by my writings (and unfortunately for those who wish I did not publish the unpleasant truths I write), I obviously survived. My then lifeless body was miraculously found and then taken out of the extremely muddy river, probably one or two seconds before I would have died.
My Dedication To Fighting Mindless Conformity Is Unmatched
That life-changing experience, by the way, is one of the main reasons I have dedicated my life to making as many people as I can Independent Thinkers; which, of course, comes with the desire, the decision, and the courage to resist mindless conformity—and therefore preserve one’s individuality.
